The Greeks and Romans are known to have familiarity with the games played with air-filled ball. They are also known to have played several ball games involving the use of feet or hands. Some of those games have resemblance with Rugby for example Antiphanes (388-311BC) who was a Greek playwright mentioned a Greek game Episkyros that had some rules resembling with Rugby.

ce. To make it more professional, all English clubs met in 1871 to form the Rugby Football Union also known as RFU. In 1895 some cases of corruption appeared reporting that players were being paid for the work they haven’t done due to  which a separate union names as Northern Rugby Football Union also known as Northern Union was formed. Later on the two unions changed their names to Rugby League and Rugby Union.

At start Rugby League and Rugby Union had the same rules differing only in administrations. After some time the rules of Rugby League were modified, resulting in completely different forums of rugby. This different forums existed for 100 years and after that Rugby Union joined Rugby League in 1995.
