The 2016 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone is another amazing showdown with an amazing British weather and around One Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand fans.

The British Grand Prix is the number ten race of the 2016 formula 1 season and held on 10th July. Lewis Hamilton was hoping to win on home soil to make a record and also hoping to close the point gap between him and his teammate, if possible take the lead for the driver’s championship campaign but only if he wish his teammate an awful performance.

Rosberg on the other hand is hoping to get back to his winning form and extend his lead after Hamilton closed in on him last week at Austria but he definitely know that he won’t be liked so much here in Britain.

As these two great drivers and partners put on a smiling face and look unbothered while they actually have a million thoughts moving in Brownian motion in their head and they are trying to figure out the strategy to deploy for the race, the fans are also waiting eagerly to see if there will be a repeat of the collision that happened between them in Austria.

The Mercedes Benz team is still enjoying their current dominance in formula 1 racing and it is certain the engineers are motivated and ready to give the drivers the possible support they may need.

2016 formula 1 British Grand Prix Race Actions

About fifteen minutes to the start of the race there was a heavy downpour, though the sky was clear before the race began but the track was drenched so the race had to start with a safety car leading the fifty two laps race and all drivers starting with wet tyres

From the first three laps of the race Hamilton was already close to the safety car and he seem to be running out of patience as he wanted the safety car to be called in so he could plunge into action. At the fourth lap there were indications that the track is all safe now and the safety car can leave the road for the real boys but race director, Charlie Whiting decided to let the safety car stick around till the end of the fifth lap.


The action began proper at lap 6, drivers start to come in massively for a change to intermediate tyres. At lap 7 Pascal Wehrlein slide into the gravel, his race is over for the day, Hamilton pits to change his tyres. At lap 8 Hamilton leads the race, 5 seconds clear ahead of his teammate at the second position. At lap 9, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is on the trail of the two Mercedes drivers ahead of him with Perez, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Sainz, Massa, Bottas and Hulkenberg trailing him at the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th positions respectively. At lap 10, Lewis Hamilton still maintaining his 5 seconds lead. At lap 11, the track is getting in good condition now. At lap 12, the race is getting more exciting, Hamilton still maintaining his lead. At lap 13, Massa and Hulkenberg nearly collided but they manage to stay on course. At lap 14, the track is really drying off now, what should be going on in the minds of the teams is a change to slicks. At lap 15, Verstappen on a steady chase after Rosberg, looks like he is determined to take over his second position, Hamilton now leads with about 4.5 seconds. At lap 16, Verstappen doing so good posting a fastest lap of 1:51.3, he finally passed Rosberg to take the second position. At lap 17, Rosberg pits so do many other cars, looks like they are coming in for slicks, Hamilton is invincible today he just made a fastest lap of 1:50.6 and ahead of Verstappen by six second. At lap 18, Verstappen responded with another fastest lap of 1:47.4 seconds he is awesome today. At lap 19, Hamilton comes in to change to slicks and now back ahead with 7 seconds clear, Verstappen pits and back with Rosberg still behind him. At lap 20, Rosberg makes a nice challenge doing a 1:42.5. At lap 21, Ricciardo is pressing Perez for the fourth position, Verstappen improved by posting a 1:40.5, Hamilton’s lead now down to five seconds. At lap 22, Hamilton proved he is in control posting a fastest lap of 1:39.0, he’s extends his lead to eight seconds now, Ricciardo finally takes over the fourth position, Sadly Romain Grosjean is out for the day. Lap 23, Lewis still maintain his lead, the fans are really cheerful. The 24th lap, Rosberg still fighting hard posts a 1:38.0. Lap 25, Rosberg again!!! another amazing 1:37.8. At lap 26, Rosberg made another 1:37.3, Hamilton still 6.8 seconds ahead of Verstappen. Lap 27, Hamilton went off track at Turn 1 his lead now down to 4.7 seconds. At lap 28, Rosberg now right behind Verstappen charging to take back his second place. 29th Lap, Rosberg now about 1.2 seconds behind Verstappen. Lap 30, Hamilton’s lead now down to 4 seconds, the podium still looks like it will be welcoming Hamilton, Verstappen and Rosberg. At Lap 31, Fourth place Ricciardo made a 1:36:9 lap. Lap 32, Hamilton buckled up to do a 1:36.9 lap he now leads 6.5 seconds clear. At lap 33, Rosberg still engaged with Verstappen but can’t find a way out. Lap 34, Hamilton post a new fastest lap 1:36.6, he extends his lead to 7.4 seconds. Lap 35, Verstappen now just 0.3 seconds ahead of Rosberg who is trying hard to get past him but the Dutchman’s defensive moves still keeps Rosberg in the third place. Lap 36, Hamilton riding on with little or no challenge now posts a 1:36.6 lap and over 6 seconds ahead of the next visible object behind him, Rosberg keeps trying to regain his spot but no luck. At lap 37, Hamilton leads by about 8 seconds. 38th lap, finally Rosberg found a way past Verstappen, he has now regained his second place in the race. Lap 39, Hamilton seems unbothered as he is now in front of the British Grand Prix by 8.6 seconds. At Lap 40, Rosberg made a 1:36.3 lap trimming Hamilton’s lead to 7.6 seconds, he might be out for his position. Lap 41, Hamilton’s lead further cut down to 7 seconds, Joylon Palmer is out of the race. Lap 42, Hamilton might be having a little problem his lead drops down to 6.5 seconds. At lap 43, Lewis still holding on to his first position. 44th lap, Hamilton is putting more gas into it. Lap 45, Rosberg with another 1:35.5 fastest lap seems closing in on Hamilton as he narrows down the gap to 5.6 seconds. 46th Lap, Hamilton holding on to his six seconds lead while Raikkonen engages Perez in a struggle for his fifth position. Lap 47, Rosberg seem to be having a Gearbox problem but Mercedes engineers were there for him he was told to avoid the seventh gear. Lap 48, Hamilton surely took advantage of Rosberg’s little problem, he is now ahead by 11 seconds, it seems Rosberg is in trouble over his recent radio communication, Verstappen is on the attack again, Raikkonen finally claims Perez’s fifth position. 49th lap, Verstappen getting really close to Rosberg. Lap 50, Rosberg doing all he can to hold Verstappen down while Hamilton is ten seconds ahead to the chequered flag, this is surely over. At lap 51, Hamilton’s leads start to drop but he has little to fear now as he is just one lap to victory. Lap 52 the last lap, It’s all over Hamilton won the 2016 British Grand Prix, Rosberg and Verstappen will be joining him at the podium for the second and third place. However, Rosberg is under investigation and if found guilty he will be ripped of some seconds.


At the end of the investigation Rosberg was ripped of 10 seconds for illegal radio communication and demoted to third place.

Hamilton’s victory and his teammates third place finish now brings him just one point behind Rosberg in the 2016 Formula 1 drivers’ championship campaign. Today Hamilton won three British Grand Prix in a row and four in total to equal the record of Nigel Mansell and chasing Jim Clark who had five wins. He is also closer to his possible fourth world title a status which is yet to be achieved by any British Formula 1 driver.
