As a famous skydiving quote says, “You only live once. Take chances”, it won’t be wrong to claim that skydiving indeed calls for more than just spending your cash. As a matter of fact,  many first timers frequently ask if they need to write their will before leaving!

Below are the words of a first time skydiver who explains his opening jump into the thrilling world of skydiving.

“I was free falling from a height of approximately 25,000 feet above the ground level. I could feel the resistance of air up against my body and felt like a toy being dropped by a child from a height. Far away below me were emerald green fields with houses studded like pearls in green velvet. As I came closer to the ground, I felt an adrenaline rush I cannot describe in words.”

For those of you who aren’t aware of what skydiving really is, I will give a brief introduction. Skydiving is a sport which involves jumping off an airplane flying at an altitude. The participants use parachutes to land themselves safely on the ground.Skydiving can either be performed solo, with an instructor or a group of people. The age limit for skydiving is usually 18 years and above but in some countries it is 15 years or above.

As opposed to what some of you might think, skydiving does not only require you to really have some cash in your wallet but also to have the guts to step out of your comfort zone. Let’s talk about the cost aspect first. A skydiving spree can cost you anywhere between $80 to $250 and above. In fact the expenditure depends on various factors such as location and equipment used. Skydiving has evolved much in the past couple of years and with new techniques and equipment in use now, it has become a relatively expensive sport.

But that’s not all. Having a sound financial plan would do you no good if you do not have what it takes. To elaborate my point even more and to provide you with some motivation, I would like to ask you a question. Have you ever thought that a pregnant woman could skydive? I anticipate the answer to be no but to disappoint you, it is indeed true! There have been reports of mothers-to-be who jumped out of the plane to feel the adrenaline pump. Some people have also successfully tried skydiving without a parachute. And if this isn’t amazing enough, there have been news of a 100 year old man in UK who skydived with his grandsons on his 100th birthday. Didn’t I already tell you it is for thrill lovers?

However, despite of all its thrill and excitement, this sport has its downside too. Many people have died skydiving due to plane crashes or lost their lives when they did not land as planned and hurt themselves irrecoverably. There have also been reports of parachutes failing to open at the right time, unexpected water landings or lack of training resulting in casualties. But all in all, skydiving is a sport which is gaining popularity with the passage of each day. And if you have the stomach for it, go for it!
