I think we all agree it is not a daily sports so what does extreme skydiving means Lets find out by some examples.

5 Extreme Skydiving From the Last 50 Years

The Skydiving is considered a non-conventional sport by some people, other consider it like an extreme sport already. Anyway in Skydiving, as in other sports, you can do it in the regular way, or by the other hand, you can transform it into a more extreme experience. For example you can go in a regular Tandem Skydive jump over Hawaii, but you can also go in a HALO Tandem Skydive in Hawaii and it becomes an Extreme Skydiving experience.

People around the world go Skydiving everyday, but sometimes they do it in a different way in order to achieve an Extreme Skydiving record . Here are some of the best Extreme Skydiving moments.

SHARING AN EXTREME SKYDIVING : LARGEST FREE FALL FORMATION: 400 PEOPLE

In 2006 the  group jumped from five cargo planes over Udon Thani, Thailand. There were skydivers from 31 different countries and they had  80 seconds to arrange into a flower- shaped formation. The complexity of this kind of jumps is to coordinate all the people in the right time to hold the formation, so the key for this Extreme Skydiving record, was the extreme coordination of the teammates.

They call themselves the ” World Team” and in 2013 they tried to break the record for the largest 2 point formation dive. They jumped and made a formation, then they broke it up and regrouped in another formation and despite they tried to break this record several times in the day, they didn’t make it.

ANOTHER EXTREME SKYDIVING MOMENT: LONGEST CANOPY PILOTING DISTANCE: 494 FT.

In 2007 the canadian Jason Moledzki flew 494 ft. in swooping flight, the longest distance that someone had made at that time, however, in 2012 Nick Batsch from USA made a 151.95 meters canopy. Swooping or Canopy Piloting consists in flying close to the ground before you land and you can maneuver or make tricks and this is way is an Extreme Skydiving discipline.

Swooping is an advanced discipline in Skydiving, so before you become a swooper, you must be a good Skydiver. Another thing that you must keep in mind is that maneuvers in Swooping are fast and you need to have a fast reaction time, so it’s better if you have a simple start, and usually the water is the best surface to do it, because it allows you to maneuver without the risk of being harmed by hard objects.

LONGEST JUMP: 102,800 FT. THE LONGEST EXTREME SKYDIVING IN THE 60’S.

Colonel Joseph William Kittinger II

Colonel Joseph Kittinger broke the longest jump world record in 1960, as part of a project of the US Air Force wich he had been part of. Kittinger got into a capsule with a Hellium Balloon. He was equipped with special gear for this Extreme Skydiving jump. He had a pressurized suit to protect himself in the extreme altitude.

Despite this, Kittinger‘s suit had a issue but he kept going to 102.800 ft ( 31.300 meters) He jumped from the capsule and he fell from 4 minutes and 36 seconds and then he opened his parachute when he was around the 5.500 meters. It was the longest jump until that moment and one of the first Extreme Skydiving jumps.

Years later in 2012 this record was broken by Felix Baumgartner.

MOST SKY DIVES IN 24 HOURS: 640 | ANOTHER EXTREME SKYDIVING EXAMPLE

Jay Stokes broke the record of Most Skydives in 1 day in the small town of Greensburg. He made it by jumping from a plane and then going to another plane with a parachute ready for deploy, and then he repeated the same. Finally, after 24 hours he made an average of 2.25 minutes between Skydive, but we think that he could make this record of Extreme Skydiving thanks to his training when he was part of the United States Special Forces.

In september 2014 Jay Stokes tried to make 700 skydives in 1 day, but it was cancelled.

LONGEST BASE JUMP: 21,666 FT. AN EPIC EXTREME SKYDIVING MOMENT.

BASE jumping is a peculiar discipline, the skydivers that try this prefer to jump from buildings or mountains in order to use their wingsuit to fly like a bird ( or a Flying Squirrel). However you can jump from a plane sometimes. In 2006 the Australians Gleen Singleman and Heather Swan jumped from Meru Peak in Northern India At 21.666 ft. They have the record of the Longest Base Jump ever made.

The risk when you are going BASE jump is that you can hit the ground because when you jump from a Peak or Mountain, you fly but you can’t control your altitude like a plane, and sometimes you can fly at only 1 meter from the ground. It is called proximity fly and is dangerous, but it provides a great view. Another Extreme Skydiving moment without doubt.
